Five months or so, would find the young pallid brute further from home than he had normally strayed, nose to the ground, following the strange scent that he had recently stumbled upon. Crimson brimmed eyes stared at the dimly lit forest ahead, where he could see moss hanging from the tree-limbs and cobwebs illuminated by the setting sun. A disgruntled sigh slipped from his jaws, as he watched the golden orb, the hues it cast causing shadows to grow in the forest. A lesser pup would be afraid, scared, of what monsters could lurk about. Not he. Cerberus feared no one and nothing. Fear wasn't in his vocabulary. The small pup moved deeper into the forest, his scent long forgotten with his head held high.

A crackle in the brush behind him, and his ivory cranium would turn, hackles rising to reveal sharp pointy teeth, a snarl brewing in his chest. The noise continued, and he felt his fur prickle, and he moved towards the sound suddenly. His neck would stretch forward, nosing the bush, trying to grab the scent of whatever lurked. Nose twitched as the tip of a leave brushed it, and he stepped back, a sneeze leaving him in a loud, ACHOO!, that caused him to tumble backwards and into a nearby tree. Pushing himself to his paws he shook himself, a disgruntled growl escaping him. Now whatever lurked in that brush was going to pay, no one just made him look like a fool!

The foreboding twilight would find the ice queen alert, triangular ears careening frantically atop her dainty crown as she listened attentively to her surroundings, hoping to keep the whereabouts of her developing daemons within her mental radar. She would allow each the freedom of exploration and each the opportunity to experience nonfatal danger on their own; however, she had forbid them to vacate the premises of their birth-site, keeping them from harm?s reach while she presided as their furtive guardian ? ever watchful and ever silent. Thus far, her job had not required much effort on her part, but as her sons? bodies developed, the wraith could only imagine how their drive for battle would expand as they continued to age. In due time, their urge for power and desire for bloodshed would grow limitless, and she would finally have a purpose once more: to fuel those wants and craft them into needs. For now, however, she was left with the tedious duty of teaching.

A loud bellow would extract the ice queen from her post as it disturbed the momentary silence shrouding the enigmatic wood, elongated limbs immediately working to propel her from her perch atop the face of her favored boulder. Nostrils would flare and skull would ascend from its position aligned with her spinal column, metallic gaze darting this way and that in search of her children, ears still swiveling to detect the faintest trace of movement in her surroundings. Quickly, the woman would ensnare the strong odor of her most unruly son, a smirk soon finding its way extending vastly across her porcelain countenance as soft growls penetrated the atmosphere ? definitely Cerberus. Rather than anticipate offensive action against whatever it was that had earned her son?s fury, the wraith would instead allow her pace to grow sluggish, tentative in step now as she attempted to approach her son slyly from the rear, careful to avoid stepping on any stray leaves that had been stripped from the trees thanks to the harsh winter winds. As the pale form of her son came into view, the ice queen would halt in her step, position shifting into a static crouch as she awaited the perfect moment to strike.

Moments would tick by before the woman launched herself towards her vulnerable son, heavier body easily knocking the tyke off-balance upon impact. A wry chuckle would slip from the depths of the wraith?s jaws as she partially removed herself from him, utilizing a single forepaw to pin him to the earth by pressing it into the center of his back. ?What lurks in front of you may not always be the most important, Cerberus,? she advised the tiny tyrant, bending down slightly to nip at his left ear before granting him the leeway of escape.

The unruly ivory's crimson orbs were fixated on the bush, senses would be unaware of the approach of another. When a force knocked him to the ground his sense would be flooded with the smell of dirt, and a furious snarl would escape him before the words of his mother would reach his ivory ears. A hissing snarl would leave him, as she let off him and he stumbled to his feet. Glaring at the large woman, his hackles would curl, revealing sharp canines and fury that would glimmer in his crimson depths. Though on some level he loved his mother, if he was even capable of love, at the moment he was pissed at her.

Standing and shaking himself, to clear the dust and debris from his coat, he looked up at her, before letting out a snort. "I heard you long before you jumped me, Mother." He would speak stubbornly and in a lie. Standing up to her, he glared at her, his ears swiveling back at the bush, where a rustling sound still remained. "Something is in there, Mother." He would state just as stubbornly, a look of sheer annoyance on his jaws. The scent of his mother thickened in the air, and now he really couldn't tell what lurked.
