A slight sinking feeling

 Before she?d always considered the frigid flakes to bring her joy with their wintry residue but now she could also decipher why so many of her kinfolk detested it. She wasn?t too bothered about food considering if she were ever truly ravenous the southern lands would provide plenty of game here, in the bog, that was not so. Snow collected here, obscuring the scenery under its white sheets, hindering her view and deceiving the white mistress with its undecipherable depths. This and having never ventured to the quagmire before thus not familiarized to the topography, proved to be quite a messy expedition. Ophelia mutely grieved the loss of her pelts pristine colors now smudged with muck as she waded through unfamiliar territory. The albino had lost her footing earlier on through her trek though the bayou and hadn?t been able to clamber back to even remotely solid ground with the snow tricking her eyes. Where mounds formed she?d attempted to scramble up, what she perceived to be, rocks or risen land. Needless to say she?d been wrong each time and if possible had sunken deeper into the sludge. The suction dragged her in the more she struggled against it until the rogue female had her forepaws perfectly glued into the muck and hind legs, with nothing to use as leverage, pulling backward in a futile effort to free herself. She splashed noisily, thrashing in the slush that had already seeped into her coat and had already begun to steadily drain heat from her body. Blush-colored eyes were wild with panic as she threw her weight to either side and it seemed to work ? until all the movement caused her hindquarters to drop lower. It was enough to inspire a new wave of urgency as her throat contracted in fear. She did not want to drown of all things! She'd been bored not suicidal! Speech,  |
