Little gray paws bounced off from the group of her family. Wide, curious green eyes took in her surroundings as she padded through the territory around her family's den. She never wandered far, but she ventured off on her own a bit none of the less. Smallest of the litter or not, there was nothing holding this little fea back!

She spotted a grasshopper in the distance and she flattened herself to the ground with a grin. Creeping forward on her belly, she jumped up at the last second, springing forward toward the little, green creature. It was faster than she was though, and it hopped out of the way, her paws landing on nothing but solid ground. She pouted and pulled her brows together as she took after it again, chasing the long-legged bug down. She bounced around comically, her pray hopping just out of her reach again and again. Finally she gave up with a little puppy growl, her ears flattened to her head and her muzzle wrinkled in a pout, her gaze turned toward the ground with a huff.

LIFE OF LIVES

beginning to the end

Ever since they had left the den, Faolan had become more bold about not sticking close to his parents. He loved them dearly, but his independence and the stubborn streak he inherited from both parents were too strong to ignore. On that particularly nice day, Faolan wandered from the safety of the group, only looking back once to see what they were all doing. Mercury and Ara were relaxing, playing some new game involving plants and trying to figure out what they were. Silent and Bronze were nearby, both curled up under the shade of a tree and watching two of their children play. The sight made Faolan want to jump in and be a part of it, but something was missing. No, it wasn't something, but someone. Where was Jendai?
Faolan turned his head back and immediately began to trot at a brisk pace. His paws carried him over the familiar trail he took when he explored the lands a short distance from the den site. He began to practice tracking and started to sniff the ground, hoping to find a trace of his missing sister. Suddenly, her scent hit him, followed by growls of frustration that weren't too far off from where he stood. Faolan padded into her direction, peaking around a bush of green leaves turning golden before raising a small eyebrow. "Jen?" He asked, dark green eyes taking in the scene of his sister sorrowfully looking at the ground. "What's the matter?" Concern rang in his voice as he padded closer to her.

Jendai's charcoal tipped ears flicked at the sound of her brother's voice, turning her aggravated gaze in his direction. She huffed and looked back at the ground at his question, spotting the grass hopper that had evaded her several yards away. And pointed at the stupid bug with a forepaw, mumbling, "I can't catch it." Stupid bug. Making her look silly. She gave another little puppy growl, refusing to look at her brother's matching green gaze. What kind of wolf was she? She couldn't even catch a bug. Dad caught stuff for them all the tiiiime.

Jendai glanced to her brother, eyeing Faolan with a smirk. Who needed to catch bugs when there was brothers to catch, right? She leaped up and turned to face Faolan, her tail wagging playfully. With a little bark the gray pup leapt at her brother, trying to tackle him with what little weight she had.

"Ahh." It was all Faolan could think of to say at that moment. He had thought about saying something more comforting, but he didn't know for sure what he could say. So, he settled with, "I am sure that you will catch something better than a bug, anyway." He hoped that it would help his sister's confidence in her next attempt to grab a worthy piece of prey.
Unfortunately, he didn't know that the next piece of prey would be him. With surprise, he made a puppy yip as Jendai's unexpected weight crashed into his own side. Faolan toppled over, shimmering silver form rolling with his sister's black and white pelted body. After a couple of rolls, Faolan was able to regain his stance, grabbing the ground with flexed paws to firmly hold onto the dirt. His dark green eyes began to twinkle and in a gruff, puppy voice he said, "You asked for it, Jen!"
His lower half was in the air as his upper torso graced the ground, but it was a temporary position as he charged towards his little sister. With teeth bearing in a malicious grin, he aimed for her abdomen, hitting it with her nose and making her topple over. Faolan didn't push all of his weight into the attack. Jendai was still smaller than him, giving her the advantage of him taking mental statistics to work around it. If she caught on and wanted to prove she could take him, then he would oblige. Playful war barks escaped the boy as he caused them both to roll again.
