Daddy's Little Helper

Resnera walked quietly through the valley. She wanted to practice her hunting and this was obviously the best place to do it. The area was loaded with squirrels and rabbits and other small animals. There were even some deer, but she doubted she was big enough to take one of those down yet. One could only hope though.
Her feet tread quietly across the forest floor and her bright blue eyes scanned the area for any sign of life. There. A rabbit was nibbling quietly on some foliage off to her right. With her eyes locked onto the poor creature, she lowered herself into a stalking position. Her legs crouched gracefully and it looked only vaguely familiar to the painful looking stalk that some of the older wolves at shown her. Their limbs had long ago started to fail them, but Resnera was young and nimble. However, her natural grace and fluidity helped to make her quite the sight indeed.
Inching her way forward she got to about four feet from the rabbit. Its ears twitched and its eyes went startled. Resnera lowered herself farther into the grass to avoid detection. The rabbit relaxed and started to graze again. Perfect. In her earlier puppy stage she would have pounced when the rabbit startled, but she has come to learn that the rabbit's muscles were tight and ready to flee at that point, and it was unwise to try for the speedy creature then. Now she tensed her muscles, took in a large breathe and sprang forward, easily covering the four foot distance. Her jaws crashed in around the little creature's neck and snapped it easily. One this her mentors were already astonished with was her amazingly accurate aim. This young wolf was phenomenal in all aspects. Now if only she could stay focused for more than half an hour....
The pretty young lady yipped and squealed in delight! That was her fourth rabbit in two hours. She was getting better indeed! Since she had discovered that her father had hurt his leg, she had taken to hunting for him. Granted it had taken a bit for her to get enough for the two of them to share, but he had always been proud of her just the same. Scooping the four rabbits up by their scruffs in her mouth, Resnera excitedly bounded off to go find her father and show him her catch.

How long had it been since the brute had stepped foot out of Valhalla? Too long. That was simply the answer, too long, way too long. Thane had finally grown tired of staying in the borders as his leg healed. Looking down at it now it seemed fine and only slightly bothered him. Now he was able to bend the leg slightly and not walk as pathetically. The man had made sure Ryker stayed home as he looked for his beloved and their children. Of course one was smart enough not to stray too far away, and that one was at home. Worry radiated off of the male's pelt like heat. All this time he had been stuck home and hadn't been able to do anything. Heck, even Ryker had gone out looking for his siblings and mother. Now it was Autumn and all three of the Tsarev children are yearlings. One was at home while the other two were the stars know where? All this time Thane thought he had been giving them room. They disobeyed his trust, period!
White lined ears perked up as aqua blue eyes scanned the valley. Thane had even gone as far as Emerald Valley. Stopping by a boulder to rest his leg and sit the man took a few deep breaths. How was he supposed to find-wait, he knew that smell, blood. the brute shot up and was on all fours so fast that it made his leg ache. He ignored it as he followed the scent and had another scent mixed with it meet his nose, Resnera!
Aqua blue eyes grew wide as the wolf tried to run with his mending broken limb.
"Resnera!?!?" he screamed, hoping she would answer.
Thane suddenly turned around a bush as his eyes landed on his daughter. A sigh of relief left him as he saw the blood came from the dead hares she was carrying in her jaw. His heart pounded still as if it were to burst out of his chest. Thane had always been calm all throughout his life, never raising his voice except once. For the second time his aqua blue gaze hardened as he looked down at his daughter with a scolding stare.
"Resnera Roe Tsarev!" he said, saying her full name as well so she would know she would be in trouble.
"Where have you been?!?! You know I wouldn't have been able to find you! Your mother is still missing and so is your brother! Everyone was gone except Ryker. Where did you go? What where you thinking?!?! You could have been killed! You could have gotten hurt! You could have been kidnapped! You could have been raped, murdered, jumped....you scared me, and your brother too! He's been miserable and so have I! Don't you ever do that again! do you hear me?!?! Before you leave the boundaries you should tell someone." he said in a gruff stern voice.
"Что бы ваша мама?!?!" he said with a lash of his tail
"Я очень разочарован в тебе...."
With a sigh Thane calmed down as his gaze softened.
Sitting down on his haunches the brute looked back at his daughter to speak once more.
"You worried me and your brother, but we worry because we love you. If something happened to you what do you think we would do hm? Would I know where you were? Would I know where to go if you happened to get hurt and not be able to move? I probably sound like I'm tightening a leash around you now but I'm not...you just scared me.I thought I lost you and your brother...he's still out there too somewhere, so is your mother." he said as his voice grew softer and softer with each word.
Eventually Thane ended up sitting on his haunches blankly staring into space. Soon enough Cyril came into the scene and glided down to land on his master's shoulder.
"Resnera!" he said as he landed, for he was delighted to see her.
The golden eagle looked at his Master and saw the distant look on his face.
"Master Thane, no sign of the others. Shall I continue looking? Or should I fly back to see how Ryker is doing."
"продолжать" he said in almost a whisper.
With a nod the eagle spread his wings and gave his niece a nod before flying away once more.
Looking back up at Resnera Thane stared at her as he waited for her to answer or reply. He was disappointed yet happy she was safe and that he had found her....he didn't know what to say next so he would wait for her to speak.

"Resnera!" She had heard his call before she could see him. Her ears perked up. She knew that voice. Daddy! Picking up a gentle lope at first she couldn't contain her excitement! She flew to him and was about to tackle him in a hug, but his eyes grew hard. She flinched and came to a skidding stop right before him, almost dropping her rabbits.
As he lectured her, pretty black wolfess cowered before her father. She cringed when she saw the disappointment in his eyes. Her big blue eyes watered, but she was determined not to cry. There was no ill intent in her actions and she really hadn't meant to be gone this long. When he had finished speaking his words were softer, but she still felt the sting of his punishing words. Dropping the rabbits at his feet, she spoke fast and her words slurred, "Папа, я не хотел тебя обидеть и так, но я пошел на поиски Мама и я не мог ее найти. Я искал везде папа, но я заблудился, я пошел по кругу, и и я не мог найти дорогу домой папа!"
She sniffled then, before looking up at him with watery eyes and a bit of a pouty lip. "Так что я пошел на приключение папа! Это было так весело! Я leanred как охотиться, видеть! Смотрите, что я поймал для вас!" Resnera dug at the ground with her forepaw nervously, before a slight grin appeared on her face. It was really hard for her to stay upset all that long, especially with her father. "Я вспомнил, вы получили травму ноги и не мог охотиться. Итак, я поймал их для вас."
Cyril landed on her father's shoulder then and said hello. She flashed him a big toothy grin! It was good to be back home! She had missed her father and brothers terribly, but the adventure had been worth it. A grave look pulled at her father's face when the eagle said that he had not found the others, and he muttered just one word, continue.
A frown tugged at the young girl's face. Had brother disappeared too? She hated that she had hurt her father so, and knew she needed to apologize. "I ran towards home as soon as I knew where I was. I'm sorry Daddy." Dashing forward she gave him a big hug with her neck, needing to feel his warmth and just let him hold her again.

Everything was falling, slipping through his paws. It stayed hidden and lost before he would find it. Whatever it was it was all the same, like a practice. Lose something find it again. Lose things dear to you find new ones. The brute looked right back at his daughter with his softened gaze. Thane pinned his white lined ears against his head for a moment seeing the look on Resnera's face. He had never been the type of parent who would yell or get upset that way. Usually Ookami would do that part...but she wasn't here to do that now. With a sigh the man listened to his little princess' words as she spoke swiftly. She said she went to look for Ookami. It was was obvious now; he and his children were worried. And even worse one was still missing as one was found. It hit him hard, he didn't like it. Thane was losing hope but then again he refused to. The brute never could...he promised her. He promised her he would never leave her, it was her turn to uphold her part. She would come back...whenever she would. Either way, he would wait for her no matter how long it will take. It was Autumn now and their children were yearlings now. During her absence he had made sure to keep them alive during the floods, teach them, and support them. Here was one of the three before him with the other back at home...he just had to find his other son.
Maybe when she finally returns he could tell her how much their children had grown, and even show her. Surely their mother would be overjoyed seeing them almost all grown up from last she saw them. Ryker's head fits his head now, Resnera is even more beautiful than before. And surely Ravine has grown a bit as well. The man was snapped from his thoughts as his daughter told him that she had an adventure and claimed it was fun. A small smile appeared on his maw. Fun was good...happiness was good. Listening patiently to her words he nodded as she showed him the rabbits. It looks like she had surely improved since he had last seen her. No more taking an hour to catch a hare he guessed. All of his children reminded him of himself in one way or another. Ravine is adventurous, Resnera is a good hunter, and Ryker is just turning out to be a bit like him altogether.
He nodded once more as she noted his leg and how she had hunted for him.One last apology had left her lips before he sprang forward and gave him a hug. A grunt of surprise from the impact left his mouth but was replaced with a chuckle.Thane took his front left paw and lifted it up to push her into him some more.
"It's ok....your brother and I missed you very much. Let's just be glad you're safe." he said as he then released her.
Aqua blue eyes looked into his daughter's own. What did his eyes show? His eyes showed what he never expressed openly anymore, sadness...
With Ookami gone he had to be strong for their children right? He didn't have time to grieve her absence; he only had time to act.
"Let's go home and relieve your brother of his worry for now. I'll continue my search for your mother and brother tomorrow." he said in a calm emotionless voice.
Turning around the wolf started to walk home. After a few steps he turned around to look back at his daughter. With a smile he gave a nod to follow.Maybe things were turning for the better....he could only hope...
-Exit Thane-
