It still baffled her how this complete stranger had suddenly become her savior, all in a few brief minutes. She had gone from being alone and uncertain of her future, to having someone to care for her and teach her everything she needed. She had followed the pallid brute away from his other children, of who she did not like in the slightest, to a new land, one she didn't know. Rocks were scattered everywhere, varying in size and shape. With minimal shade in the summer, it was rather hot. Small jaws parted in a pant as she stayed on Seraphims heels, refusing to get lost from him. She had remained quiet for most of the journey, keeping her gaze fixated straight ahead, trying to forget the cruel words of the pale she wolf. But they were true.

She stopped when the brute did, two toned eyes turning up to look at him sadly. Now that the other pups where long gone, her shoulders sagged, with sorrow and exhaustion, blue and green pools had lost their fire. Even her brothers and sister had left her. Haunches slide to the ground, dust collecting on her ebony pelt as her belly growled in protest. She was still hungry. She didn't say a word. It was all still uncertain. While she was thankful for the brutes compassion, she wasn't sure she could trust him yet, he was a stranger within Tortuga, she had always been warned that not all the wolves that resided there were friendly. Was he one of them? It didn't seem like it, after all he had offered a second chance.

"Where are we?" Dull eyes looked around the landscape, soft voice weary. What now? All she could do was wait for instructions on what was going to happen to her now, what this man had planned for her. He seemed nice enough, but his children were cruel. She didn't remember her own siblings ever being so mean, but then it was only them for most of their lives. She hoped to see very little of the pale brother and sister. Gaze finally returned to Seraphim, eyes wide, lost and fearful.

The day's events had taken a turn that Seraphim hadn't expected in the least. Originally he had simply been out for a walk. That walk had become a search to see his children,, and finally become an adoption. How had he gotten here? It didn't matter. Despite that anger that had seeped from the pores of his offspring, Seraph was overjoyed with the result of the day. He had come home, to the rock garden, with a child of his own at his side.

A child completely his own. One that he didn't have to share with a vindictive bitch. One that he didn't have to share with any female. One that he could love unconditionally. Devya was the one thing he had always hoped for. He led her quietly through the beautiful garden to his overhang. He glanced down at her, noting the fear and apprehension that had suddenly shown in her. Frankly, it was impressive to him that she had maintained so much control around his aggressive children. His normally narrowed eyes opened wider, portraying gentleness as opposed to his usual cold stare. A tiny smile spread on his maw.

Devya, I am sorry about the way that my children treated you. They are mine solely by blood - I have been given no part in raising or influencing them, other than to teach them basic survival skills. He shook his head slightly as he thought again of how vehemently he resented Morphine's parenting. You won't have to worry about them. They will hardly be around you, and I will help you to learn how to deal with them properly.

While I am a member of Tortuga, it is simply to monitor them. I live here, away from the pack in this rock garden. This is where we will spend most of our time. He sat back on his haunches and and tilted his head slightly. Do you like it?

When they did stop within the garden, the male began to speak. She didn't fully understand what he meant, it was confusing, why didn't he help raise his children? They were his after all. She didn't voice her questions out loud, not yet at least. It soothed her some to know that he didn't play a role in their behavior. Some of the tension ebbed away when he told that she wouldn't be around them very often, she didn't want to be around them at all, but if he was going to teach her how to be around them, then she could manage seeing them every once in awhile.

This is where we will spend most of our time. She looked around, taking a closer look at the area. It wasn't too bad, but it was certainly different than what she was accustomed to. "It's nice." Her statement was simple, void of any true emotion. To be honest, she was still uncertain of everything. Especially what would become of herself. It worried her.

Her stomach growled in protest, breaking her silence. A sheepish grin spread across her face as she tucked her chin, slightly embarrassed. She had been to distracted to remember how hungry she was, but now that she could relax, she was sharply reminded. How long had it been since she had eaten? She couldn't remember. It was long enough for her to be dying for something to eat though. Glancing up at Seraphim, she hoped he would offer to hunt. Food and sleep. It was all she wanted right now. To have a full belly, and be warm and safe in a den, curled beside her new family.

He saw the confusion in her eyes, but knew it was best to avoid mentioning anything more for now. The girl was probably struggling with the changes in the first place. She had a lot to adjust to - a new father, a new home. Her unemotional response to his question confirmed his theory that she was nervous. He imagined that any more would be tough on a child her age, so he simply smiled and continued to observe her carefully.

The sound of Devya's stomach growling caused Seraphim to chuckle and shake his head slightly. Relax for a little while, I'll go get you something, he said as he abruptly turned and left the overhang.

The pallid brute returned a mere half hour later carrying a large rabbit in his jaws. He set it gently before the girl and nudged her slightly. Your dinner, my lady, he said with a grin and a bow. Enjoy it. When you're back in good health we'll start some lessons and you can learn to catch some for yourself.

Food. As soon as he offered to bring her something to eat he vanished, leaving her alone in the silence of her new home. Taking this time to observe, her head turned this way and that way, taking in the sights around her, picking out nothing special. A sigh left her lips, shoulders drooping with exhaustion. She missed her family. But now, she had a new family, didn't she? She wasn't entire certain yet, but she could hope. Her stomach growled again, protesting at its emptiness.

It wasn't long before he returned, carrying the best looking rabbit ever. Pools of blue and green light up, her tail wagging gently. "Thank you." A genuine smile graced her features. Rising to her paws, she began to feast. It was the best thing she had ever tasted. Audits twitched, the only sign she gave to tell him that she was listening as she ate. He was going to teach her some stuff. She couldn't have been happier.

With her belly full she sat back, grooming away the traces of her dinner. "Thank you for everything." A yawn quickly parted her jaws. The day had been tiring, exhausting. She had faced cruel pups her own age, and found a new home. So much was changing around her that it was making her tired, even more tired than she already was. She hoped that soon she would be able to sleep, but she wasn't sure if there was something more he wanted to teach her or show her.

Amazing, how all of this had come to happen. It would probably be days before he fully got used to this change in his life. It had just been so unexpected, a gift he could never have dreamed of. He watched his new daughter as she savored her meal, unable to even acknowledge him beyond a flick of her ears. He couldn't help but chuckle slightly.

Once she was finished, she thanked him and he simply gave a nod of his head in return. He took notice of her yawn and glanced out from the overhang toward the setting sun. The girl was so weak, she had to be exhausted. He stepped around to lay down beside her and gently nuzzled her head. Go on and sleep as long as you need. I'll see you when you're awake and full of energy, and then we'll work on hunting.

A sleepy nod was her only response as she curled up next to Seraphim, snuggling into his side. His warmth was comforting even though she didn't know him. ....we'll work on hunting.... It as the last thing she heard before she drifted off into the first fitful sleep she had had in quite awhile. She let his shared body heat wash over her like a blanket, she pressed herself against him, eyes already shut and her breathing slowly growing steady with sleep. Pleasant dreams consumed her, dreams of her new life, her new future. Her new everything.
