Shinrei didn't appear to be nearly as jovial and outgoing as many of his siblings. While they tumbled and jogged about the safe reaches of the bamboo forest, the pale boy merely stood by and watched, as if he was already matured. Boring, he figured they'd call him. Boring because he wasn't jumping into mud puddles, or charging bamboo stalks into scuttling groups of mice around the forest floors. No, he was content to stand with his father, watch his siblings play around because that in and of itself brought him enough joy. Even if he didn't betray his soft frown and unreadable gaze to show as such.

But today was a little different. Though his forepaws still ached, and the dewclaws on his front paws were tender, the discomfort was able to be pushed aside. Just for now, at least. Most of the day he remained stationary for the growing pains tended to jab at him. He wanted to stretch his legs, show his siblings he could be capable of jostling about and playing - even if he was stiff doing so. Already tall like many of his brothers and sisters, and somewhat steady on his puppy feet, the peachy-furred male approached a small clearing, the perfect size for two puppies to spar. Shifting his weight from one foot to another, Shinrei wondered if he should call for one of his siblings to come over, or if he should just..wait and see.

He decided to awkwardly shuffle on his feet, quiet as if another puppy would show up by themselves to spar with him.

Kina

Every day she explored a little farther, working her formulas out in her head. Where once it was all left turns, then it was all right, slowly she was committing the maze to some semblance of memory. Along the way she'd found a number of interesting trinkets, a cool rocks, some shells, and now she had a mouse skull to add to her collection. She wasn't quite sure what she'd do with it yet but she was eager to learn to make jewelry and figured she could get the crabby man's old macaque to help her with a few projects.

Kina buried away her treasures, pausing when she caught Shinrei's scent. What was he up to?  Curious, Kina followed the trail, noting her brother in the clearing. "Hey Rei, whatcha doing?" She lifted a paw and scratched absently at the little white nubs protruding from her head. Her father said they would be her horns one day but yikes they were sure itchy sometimes.

When his sister approached, Shinrei was relieved another familiar face showed themselves. He wasn't sure if he'd feel as comfortable playing with a complete stranger, anyways. He watched her approach, pale form contrasting the dull green shades of the tall bamboo stalks that still towered endlessly above their heads. "Um..not much," He replied honestly, offering a soft shrug. He wasn't shy per say, but the tall boy certainly inherited his father's tendencies to speak little unless necessary.

Finally, though, he expressed what he'd come here to accomplish. Or just play? He wasn't entirely sure. "Do you wanna spar?" He inquired softly, straightening his shoulders. He recalled his father explaining that having his legs a shoulder width apart created a better balance of weight to reduce the chances of being knocked off his feet, and thus he did so, eyes trained on his sibling as if expecting a retaliation. Playfully, of course. "You can start."

Kina

Shinrei stated that he wasn't doing much. Oh? Was he bored perhaps? He head tilted ever so slightly to the side. It seemed her brother was looking for something to do as he asked if she wanted to spar. "Yes, I think that would be fun. I need to practice." Her father had explained the importance of being able to defend oneself and she had been meaning to practice her battle skills more. They were still few and far between but there was really only one way to improve and that was through doing. Shinrei gave her the first move and she nodded. Her fur stood on end, hackles raised and her ears pinned back. She remembered that much from her last lesson.

She set her legs square, eyed her brother for a moment and then took off, kicking up dust as she raced toward him. She slipped to her left, jaws lashing out as she tried to nip his right knee. She didn't intend for a grip, just wanted a nip to tag him and score herself a point for a successful hit.

Shinrei saw his sister accept the spar request, and her demeanor changed to suit their tousle. Hackles raised and ears pinned back, Shinrei did the same as he stood, bracing his limbs even more to prepare for her attack.

As dust kicked up and she aimed for his right knee, Shinrei felt her puppy teeth graze his limb as she found some purchase, but allowing her to do so, he sought an opportunity. He aimed to push some weight into his right shoulder, aiming to push Kina off-balance from where she was. At least then it would throw her off and allow him to retaliate. Or her to try and regain her balance.

Kina

Kina's fangs met flesh, tagging her brother's knee. Success! She was so excited for a moment that she failed to dart away in time. Her brother's right shoulder struck her right hip. She lost her balance, falling onto her left side and immediately she struck out with both her front paws, seeking to slam them into Shinrei's right hind leg, just below the knee. She hoped to strike with enough force to cause him to stumble and buy herself time to get back to her feet. Kina felt her cheeks burn with embarrassment at dropping her guard but she made a note not to do it again. She kept her hackles raised and ears pinned as she tried to salvage her maneuver.

Shinrei felt his shoulder slam into Kina's body, causing her to lose her grip and stumble into the dirt. Dust flew into the air, muddling Shinrei's vision briefly as he was forced to squint. This allowed enough time for his sister to jut out her forelegs as she had lost her balance, ramming into his own hind leg. It buckled, and he grunted as he was pulled into a near-crouch. However, as the dust cleared, he noticed Kina's right front paw had not quite left his sight, and quickly he snapped for it with his jaws, aiming to wrap his maw around her foot to prevent her from getting up.
