I Would Walk Five Hundred Miles

Even though he told his mom not to go and have more kids, Sparrow had gone and done just that. But, Jack couldn’t be mad, she was truly happy and he decides it is high time that he get to know his younger siblings better. Today, he guides Boggy along, carrying him when his paws tire to a place that he thinks his younger brother might like. When a low fog begins to cling to ground and earth turns marshy, he pulls the small pup to a stop and says, “Okay, listen. You can explore freely but just be aware that there are some natural obstacles here. Why don’t you try to find them and tell me what they are?”

It is an attempt to direct the restless energy of youth, to give him a direction to focus as they traverse the bog-like land. Calico Jack sticks close to his younger sibling, ready to pull him to safety if he wanders into quicksand or a really deep pocket of mud since he is mostly certain that his ma would be angry if he came home minus one brother. Actually, now that he thinks about it, he isn’t so sure about that. Ah well, best not to tempt fate and just make sure that Boggy returns back safely.
