Looking For Inertia [Hanzo]

Come down, come down sweet reverence
Even for her large ears and long legs the summer was proving sweltering. Jynn lay stretched out, belly down in a divot in the cool earth she dug herself deep amongst the bamboo. She was built for heat but now and then she just needed to get out of the sun. While resting here she started to brainstorm. Jynn had no experience teaching others to fight. She only knew how out of necessity, for as a lone, wandering female she was often the target of violence.
Jynn knew of raids that happened between packs and that some of them could be arranged ahead of time to be friendly. Maybe even with a wager to spice things up. If she understood correctly those would be the main types of fights the pups would need to prepare for so why not try to arrange something? They could all learn at the same time.
Motivated by the idea Jynn got to her feet and shoot the dirt from her fur before calling for Hanzo with her unique roar bark.

Hattori knew Jynn well enough, but her vocalisations were still strange to his ears. He heeded her call nonetheless, moving quickly to meet and discuss whatever she had in mind. Even beneath the shade of the bamboo, the summer heat was sweltering, the air thick with a humidity that was inching closer to stifling. Perhaps they ought to wander to one of the many streams once they were done, the water was clear and fresh, even a few laps would make the heat far more bearable.
"Jynn." He greeted once within conversational distance, his ear flicking as a fly buzzed nearby.

Jynn settled down patiently to wait and soon enough her pack alpha arrived. "Kaicho," she dipped her head low in greeting. "I wanted to inquire about some of Tojo's interpack relations. Namely which ones would be best to reach out for planning a friendly raid. It's my understanding that raids are some of the more common examples of pack conflict. I thought it might be prudent to arrange a practice raid for the yearlings to get some practical experience. What do you think?" Jynn left out that it was for practical experience for herself as well. Being a loner, Jynn would often flee conflict if she didn't feel she could gain anything from it. Simply running away when your pack was being attacked however would be unacceptable. She needed the experience as much as the yearlings.

Tojo-kai was as self-sufficient as ever; and though some seasons were less forgiving than others, their caches and stores were well stocked, enough that Hattori felt little incentive to raid and pilfer. Still, he was not naive enough to dismiss the merits of Jynn's suggestion, Tojo was home to talented warriors, but it had been quite some time since their skills had been put to the test- namely his children.
He thought on it, pale brows furrowing as his gaze skimmed the bamboo, memories of the siege left a bitter taste upon his tongue. They had managed to hold their own, but the fact the enemy had gotten so deep into the maze was troubling in and of itself. Hattori prided in Tojo's stoicism and independence, but they needed to be prepared and honestly, he couldn't see many alternatives- everyone could do with more, real fighting experience,
"Officially speaking, we do not hold alliances or make trade." Which in the same line of thought meant they didn't pick fights or squabbles with other packs either. Tojo remained painfully neutral. "But there are several packs that we have had...pleasant interactions with. Namely, the Hallows and Hemlock." Of course he had known Modesty ever since she was a pup, but he couldn't say he enjoyed the Raiders as a whole. Corbie of Avalon had been cordial as well, but he did not think she regarded him as anything more than a loose acquaintance. "Others may be agreeable if asked."

Jynn waited patiently, watching as Hattori looked off into the bamboo, swept up in internal thoughts. She didn't pry but she did start to wonder if her idea would be well received. When Hattori spoke it was to explain that they did not hold alliances or participate in trade. Ahhh… that could make things a bit trickier. However, it seemed that Tojo had pleasant interactions with Hallows and Hemlock. Well that was a start, and of course Jynn had enough of her own experiences with Avalon to be comfortable reaching out to them. For now though she'd reach out to Hallows and Hemlock and see if they could get something arranged. The northern most pack might be interesting for a change in terrain and scenery. "Thank you for the information. I'll do some asking and let you know what I find out!"

It was a simple and short exchange, suited his tastes well enough. Though they had never quite crossed the line of being friends, Hattori did trust the maned wolf's judgement- that her wits and mind had to be sharp after all the time she had spent living alone in the wilds. Still, he found himself wondering what she thought of the clan as a whole and how she was settling in. No one was forced to mingle or interact, unless they wished to, so he was not overly concerned, but he did want to hear it from her own lips.
"Very well. And how are you settling in?"

Jynn mentally ran through her checklist of things to bring on her journey north. It would be a long trek but with spring around the corner for Boreas the weather would be much more suitable for the journey. If she was lucky perhaps they could et a practice raid arranged by summer. While fighting in the harsh winter would also be a good training exercise she wasn't keen to throw the pups into the deep end, especially after such a long bout of travel.
"Settling in well, actually." Jynn grinned. The transition had been smooth enough though the real test was how long she could stay with the pack before her wandering instincts got the better of her. Or if perhaps there was a way to marry that instinct with pack life. The scouting mission to Boreas was an excellent example and would do her good. "It helps to have a friend already in the pack." Her thoughts flickered to Nami. She wasn't sure if she'd have adjusted as well without her friend.
