Climbing rocks

Thorn walked slowly through the landscape. He planned to make a map of the fjord and he was looking at how the land he’d need to properly show the changes in the height that were so dramatic here. The water was beautiful but the taste of salt was still in it. The weather had been a dreary sort as if undecided. The humidity weighed on him and rain came in slow drizzles with a grey sky above. No sign of the sun in this weather.
Thorn scented funguses both along the banks and under the trees. Some type of insect could be heard in various trees, a gentle background noise in a relatively quiet place. When the wind blowed the leaves rattled on the leaves and those that had fallen on rocks danced about.
The giant wolf had an equally giant sword strapped to his back. He never left it home, no matter how peaceful his intentions were. It was both for protection, keeping his muscles in shape for it, and honestly, it would feel weird not to have the weight on his back.

The trek down from Insomnia takes some time but Enki is happy to be out exploring even if the dreary weather does its best to deter him. Clouds make a lattice work int the sky, overlapping until they form gray bellies that grumble silently with unvoiced thunder as they threaten to unleash their tears upon the world. It’s as if they cannot make their mind, sometimes drizzling lazily while other times unleashing a thick deluge that obscures the path before him. But he refuses to return home and, by the time he reaches the place known as Faller’s Fjord, they have returned to simply threatening the world below with rain.
Heat assaults his senses as he grows closes to Auster and while Spring is slowly returning to the lands of Boreas, it is evident that Summer is doing its best to flee the lands down south. Dark gray walls of rock break into cliffs and steep slopes, challenging even the best navigators to try and conquer this difficult terrain. Yet, even while the rocky land seems almost impossible to clamber down to the water that carves its way through the land, trees have found footholds in almost impossible places. Enki slowly and carefully finds a path down, studying the beauty and admiring the way that vegetation has found nooks to blossom from.
A cool wind tickles Enki, running its fingers through his pale fur and touching his wet nose with a gentle kiss. As he descends, a giant, black and blue form catches his attention and he stops for a moment to inspect the stranger. They have a sword strapped to their back but they do not seem to be here to pick a fight so the paler man gives a soft ‘woof’ to alert the other man to his presence. Moving closer to the stranger, he stops a respectful distance away and greets him, “Hey there. My name’s Enki and I was wondering if you have you ever been out here? This place is amazing.” A grin tugs at his lips as he speaks.

Thorn spotted the other wolf as he approached, it seemed to have a friendly nature. A fight along the fjord could be fun but apparently wouldn’t be necessary. It was sadly hard to use Stormsong much in any spars, the sword didn’t exactly tap or nick with its attacks.
He nodded to Enki, “Hello,” Thorn called back, “I’m Thorn Carpathius, well Met Enki.” Wolves were roaming the lands these days who could not be trusted. Thorn reminded himself to be vigilant just in case a surprise came up. “I’ve passed through the area before but I can’t say I’ve really spent much time here.” Until now at least but, that part was left unsaid.
The breeze brought with it a new scent, faint but Thorn was confident it was the promise of rain in the distance. If it started raining here some of these rocks promised to be hard to get friction on. The smother rocks, or ones that mold or algae grew on had less friction already to them. The downward angle certainly could make a stumble here more dangerous. Well, it was a ways off and Thorn was confident in his balance. It would however make it harder to make a good map if he wanted the paper to stay dry.
