It was no surprise to anybody that Usagi’s defeat in the raid was a sour one. He did not dwell on such things of winning or loss - they meant little to him, really, in the wider scope of things. But losing to someone whom he’d beaten before - a reckless Pirate fool, no less - lingered in the back of his throat like some small particle of shame. He was well aware he was a capable warrior, though not arrogant in his abilities, he was collected, calm, and confident in his skills. But the fact that he hadn’t been able to avenge their previous spat tugged at the back of his mind still. Even as he laid in the medical den, besten and bruised, a lick of flame still remaijed lit in his chartreuse gaze. Determination, honed from the embers of the pure rage he’d unleashed against his mottled foe. He’d get better, faster, stronger. Because it was all he knew. Because it was guaranteed to produce results from the fruits of his labor. And he’d probsbly try and slice off that idiot’s ear next time they were to meet - if the Pirates were foolosh enough to traipse into the sanctity of their maze.

His quiet musings were interrupted gently by rumbling footfalls, and his gaze lifted from the ground towards a surprising sight; his superior. He offered a dip of his head in greeting, tilting his head softly as he noticed Hattori’s dog carrying a set of shoulder-plate armor. Usagi I have something for you. Usagi was never the best at expressing thanks, but the glint in his eyes said enough between the two of them to know he was beyond honored. It was a great honor for him to be bestowed a piece he wasn’t sure he deserved - but such musings were swiftly swatted away as he looked up at the leader and replied with earnest, "Thank you, Hattori.” Assuming that the Akita was in view, he would notice the intricate, sharp edges of gold, a bit of red and black paneling in between to create a piece that matched his body and would surely adapt with the agility his combat style demanded. He was tempted to get up, and even attempted to do so, but the sharp aftershocks and throbbing of his missing digit kept him from doing much more than propping himself on his elbows.
