He leaned back as she pushed lightly against him. Responding to her body without words necessarily as she lay on top of him. His back pressed against the grassy earth, as heat flooded him from above. She pressed into him, and he could feel the way her heart beat against his. This was a different sort of pleasure, and he closed his eyes, pressing his chin lightly against her skull. He wrapped his arms around her, his hold gentle and loving.
She repeated the words back at him, commitment in that sentence. He would always love Zee, he would always mourn her, but he learned as well that he could still live this life. That he didn’t have to live it alone.
He stroked her head and trailed his paw lightly down his back, repeating the motion with a soothing rhythm. “Stay with me, Isa. Move into my den. Weave our lives together. I’ll tell the kids in the morning. No more delays, no more hesitation. I love you, Isa.”
