Lifeboat

Darkness. It was everywhere. One moment, he was skirting what he assumed were the borders of a pack (though it was hard for him to tell in this storm), and the next, it seemed like the ocean was spilling from the mountains. He had tried to run. Tried to avoid it. But considering his physical limitations, the flood had caught up to him and it swept him off his feet. Took him away. He tried to fight against it. Tried to keep his head above water, but he was struggling too much. He coughed and sputtered as he was spun around, pulled underneath, thrown back up. He tried to avoid the debris in the water but ended up slammed against logs and rocks. At one point, his prosthetic had gotten caught in some debris that threatened to break it into pieces if he didn't get free. Not only that, but he would drown if he didn't. With great effort, he had managed to free himself, but not before using the last bit of strength he had.

He could feel the exhaustion quickly taking hold. His chest hurt. His throat hurt. His body was cold. Sore. Bruised. Cut. His head hurt. He was struggling to see with his good eye as he was constantly blinded by the dirty water and flashing lightning. He wasn't sure he was going to make it out of this alive...but that would be just his luck, wouldn't it? Escape a free man, just to die a free man a short time later...
