Gil is content to follow behind Modesty. Not only because he’s still being doled out punishment, but also because he’s always enjoyed admiring his wife’s assets. That dire woman had a shape about her, even after two rounds of pups, that was alluring and had his inside churning.

Listening to her be his tour guide, Gil walked in tense but companionable silence. It isn’t until they reach the upper levels and Modesty plops down along an open window does Gil stop and hesitate. He notices her quills settle as if to invite him over. Was it worth it? Was it a trap? Another moment of hesitation before he steps forward and slide down to nestle in beside her.

“I always thought you looked just like the stars,” Gil murmurs, his eyes turned up to the night sky. He’s not trying to woo his way back into her heart. He’s just being honest. Open. Vulnerable. No doubt she would take the opportunity to rip him apart.
