Blood stained teeth and lips split into a triumphant smile as the svelte, lavender and smoke fae crept through the forest of red trees. Kaino was tracking, hunting, planning her kill. A trail of red, deeper russet than the leaves of the trees, marked her path. The young buck had been injured, one hind leg mangled. A three-legged deer could still run, but not for long. A deer didn't have the stamina of a wolf. Not by a long shot. Kai would run it down until it died or gave up.

Up above, muted sunlight filtered down through the foliage, dappling the leaf-strewn ground in puddles of gold. A pretty enough day, but there was no time for sight seeing. Kaino had to be vigilant in her pursuit, else someone might snatch her dinner right out from beneath her pretty pink nose. The crash of brush up ahead brought smokey ears swiveling and Kai increased her speed. Mint and ice eyes rested upon the form of the fallen buck. He'd had enough. His body had given out. Dead and he didn't even know it.

With the ungulate laying prone in a lake of red leaves, it would be easy for the Saxe fae to deliver the killing blow. The sides of the buck heaved, its nostrils flaring and eyes going wide as the slender wolf came into view. It struggled, but it was to no avail. With practiced ease, Kaino ducked beneath the bucks chin, jaws locking around its throat. The deer gave little fight and, once it accepted its fate, died quickly. Once dispatched, Kai gave a husky little laugh and sprawled on the soft blanket of red leaves beside the deer. A little breather would be nice before she ate lunch.
