summertime voodoo

Barghest padded through the underbrush of the willows, the rustle of vine-like branches and leaves the only ambiance among the calls of birds and distant creature noises. Or at least, it was, until the peace was interrupted by a deep, guttural growl. She halted, her ears perking up, alert to the warning of another being. It wanted her to know it was there, even if she hadn’t seen or heard or smelled it first. No ambush? What was it playing at? Emerging from the dense foliage, a massive gorilla lumbered into view. His fur was a rich shade of black, his muscles rippling beneath the surface. A silver splash of fur along its back. She paused, aqua eyes intensely focused on one thing. The look in his eyes – a fierce glint of hatred.

Unfazed by the gorilla's imposing presence, Barghest held her ground, her own instincts tingling with caution. It was bigger. Much bigger than her. She was on her toes, ears flattening as she watched the gorilla advance, his steps heavy and deliberate. Damn.

As the gorilla drew nearer, his intentions unmistakably clear, Barghest bristled, her hackles rising in defiance. With a low growl rumbling in her throat, she bared her teeth, warning the gorilla to back off. For the first and last time. But he paid her no heed.
