We need to talk

This was the last conversation Basilisk wanted to have, but it was the one he was least able to put off. He was spending a lot of time with Ignita. If he left it, he was just opening the door for Spider to find out themselves, and Basilisk had a feeling that would be the worst way for this to go down. He was not, and could not replace Hazel, and he most definitely wasn’t putting another parent in her place. How much and what acceptance Spider might eventually give Ignita would be up to them. But in the meanwhile, as his kid, Spider would always have a claim over part of his heart. And their opinion of who Basilisk was with mattered. Because there was no separation of adoption. Basilisk was all in, and Spider was his kid.

He reached the Col, and raised his head to call for Spider, taking a seat on the sun-warmed earth on the unusually warm winter day.
