She was just vain enough to regret his words. She liked her coat, even though being pretty could be a curse… but her mother had been prettier, had sheltered her from attention as much as she couldn’t until she couldn’t anymore. Despite it all, she liked being pretty. She didn’t say anything as he grabbed another set of bandages, smaller this time. Less area to cover as she slowly but surely came right again. Or, as right as she could be.
