He made a satisfied sound as her paw caught on the chain of the engagement gift. He reached forward and tugged lightly just above the bird, letting the chain tighten around her throat. His eyes showed heat and amusement as he let his claw go, and the chain slowly loosened. “It suits you, Little Bird.” he rasped softly.

“More blighted trees, it’s spread further than we can contain.” He explained, his voice dry and rough. “I’ve had it a few days, my fever broke this morning.” A sign that he was on the mend? He hoped so, and a good sign that would be. No one had died from this yet… that he knew of.
