Crunch. Crunch. Crunch. He moved through the fields quietly, slowly, frowning deeply at the crispy blades of grass that he travelled over. It was summer, but…it wasn’t supposed to be like this, was it? The plants were withering instead of thriving, the soil hard and dry, dusty in some places. Lathan had paused at one point to take note of how the grass roots were shriveling and causing shrubs to fall over, no longer able to hold on to the hard ground- and no reason to, the water was gone.

It led to their own demise, without the protection of the earth, the sun roasted the roots rapidly, the shrubs that had fallen were far more wilted and browning, the leaves akin to those in fall already. It would not last the winter. He sighed, moving on. The plant and its flowers were no used to him in that state. He would have to continue looking.

The young wolf had ventured out in the early morning, it was now the heat of the day and the sun beat down on his dark pelt, causing him to seek refuge under a tree. He inspected the tree, but it held no medicinal…or poisonous value to him, it was just an oak tree. He frowned. How unfortunate. From beneath the shade, he searched the rolling grassy hills for something of color, something that told him there were poisons near by. He knew they were out there, he just had to sniff them out and hope they hadn’t succumbed to this odd summer.
