I, the devourer

Ursus slunk through the tall grasses as low and quietly as he could. His bear paws made it difficult at times, but he managed. The whistle of the wind rushing by him would help hide the noises his body made as he stalked the prey ahead of him. Slowly and surely, he grew closer to the fawn who had unfortunately been separated from its mother. Knowing it wouldn't survive, Ursus saw it as a pity kill. Save its life and feed his belly.

He readies to leap. Muscles aching from the patience, he feels his mouth salivate in anticipation. It would have only been a few more moments until the loud call of a nearby raven caught the fawn's attention. Large ears and head pop up above the grasses, eyes wide as it spots not Ursus, but a different wolf tediously walking through the plains. At the sight of the predator, his next meal takes off at lightning speed in the opposite direction.

Frustration courses through him as he turns on the wolf who he sees now is blind. To Ursus, that mattered little in the grand scheme of things. If the bird was his companion, it should've known better. On the edge of pissed off, Ursus stomps over, uncaring if the stranger hears his approach. At least maybe the dickhead will be ready for what comes next.

"Since I can't fell your bird from the sky, I suppose you'll reap the punishment," Ursus' tone is snide as his lips pull up into a sneer. A growl rumbles in his chest as he prowls closer until he can nearly feel the breath of the wolf wash over him. Without another word, he strikes out, aiming to strike the stranger across the face.
