Kina

Kina's focus turned to her skills in fighting, which truth be told were few and far between. She knew it was important to learn and she also knew one of the only ways to get better was to practice. She spent her morning warming up by attacking a low hanging branch in the oaks before deciding to see out a more skill opponent… but not too skilled. Kina wasn't interested in sparring any of the adults just yet. She would eventually but for now she wanted to spar one of her siblings, if she could just find one who was up for the challenge.

Kina wandered back through the maze to the den site then called out for Kaizen to see if he was up for a sparring match. She stretched while she waited, pausing only to scratch at her forehead.

Kaizen frowned as he wondered what his sister wanted. It wasn't often he was called for personally, usually the gist was someone come here as opposed to Kaizen specifically. It put a bounce in his step as he hurried back to the den site, totally not curious to see what Kina wanted. In fact, he didn't care at all, was only heeding her call to be polite, as all of her siblings ought to be. Pushing through the thin bamboo stalks, he arrived on scene with a few stray leaves clinging to his coat, lengthened tail twitching slightly. He was so scrawny, fur a little ratty and not a single pup had grown into their nubbin' horns yet. They weren't made of proper Hattori stuff yet, but they would be in time, he was sure of it.

"Kina, what is it?" He asked, head tilting.

Kina

Kina waited patiently for her brother, stretching lightly in anticipation of the fight. When he arrived she dipped her head in greeting. "Brother, I wondered if you might join me in a spar? I have set a goal for myself and I wish to see where I stand." She knew her siblings were naturally talented and she didn't want to be left behind. She was eager to show that she stacked up well against them and that none could deny she was their equal. "If this is pleasing to you, you may go first."

Kina stepped back to give them more space, setting her defenses. Her ears pinned to her head as her shoulders rolled forward, neck scrunching back. Her fur and hackles were on end, her tail tucking tightly against her abdomen. Fight by fight she was learning and she would continue to do so.

"If you want, yeah." He agreed easily enough, seeing no harm in it. They'd spent a lot of the time in the den wresting with one another, if you could even all their squirmy attempts at swatting each other that. His memories of those early days were hazy at best, but his siblings had always been there, their scents always filled his nose. Family was important, it felt that way to him at least. So even if he hadn't wanted to spar he would've done so anyway, just because Kina asked.

With all the typical puppy clumsiness, he charged forward, paws oversized for his gangly frame. He stumbled mid-rush, the leaf litter slipper than he'd anticipated. His talons dug in, the tips getting muddy as he swung himself to a fullstop. Both in an attempt to stop himself from slipping, but to also thud against his sister's chest in the process.

Kina

Delighted that her brother agreed she checked over her defenses and readied herself to defend. This would be good practice for she'd spent a few spars being the first to move, now she could try being the one responding to a fight. Truth be told, in most instances, she imagined she'd be responding to attacks rather than initiating them. Kina preferred to work issues out with words if at all possible but some times a fight was just necessary.

Her brother charged, slipping in the mud and leaf litter as he did. Kina thought she'd have time to dodge but she underestimated the slickness of the ground, even after seeing Kaizen slip. She tried to dodge to her right but her brother's chest slammed into her left thigh, knocking her half way over. Her hind legs were down but her front ones still up. She kicked out with her hind legs at her brother, trying to knock his nearest shoulder as she reached out with her head to nip at his back.

Kaizen ooofed as they collided, his ribs aching with the impact. He hadn't thought it was hurt quite so bad, shoulders were meaty and had muscle, but he didn't think they'd be that hard. Had she tensed right before impact? Would that have made a difference, he briefly wondered. They fumbled, poor form all around, but nothing entirely unexpected given how young they both were.

Before he'd even had time to readjust his posture, not stand there with his legs tucked so close, spread his gait a little, Kina was already on the move again. Springing off of her hind limbs, her pale form blurring like a yurei. They slammed into each other once more, this time Kina the instigator as he twisted his neck, making a wrestling grab for her muzzle before her nip connected. Think a snack lashing out, bendy at the neck with teeth bared.

Kina

Kina's solid bone structure helped offer her some defense from impact but it still hurt and she knew she'd have a bruise. It was to be expected. She had yet to have a fight where she hadn't gotten hurt and from what Yuki had told her that was very much to be expected. Before her bite could connect, her brother moved for her muzzle. Kina reacted, sharply twisting her head away only for her brother to grab onto the side of her neck, midway between her head and shoulder. She still had enough movement for a close attack and so she attempted to retaliate, her own teeth seeking out the underside of his neck, halfway between his throat and the top of his chest. She really wasn't sure what to do at that point on so she just went with the flow, hoping another move would open up for her.
