An After Effect or a Harbinger?

When Gossamer first heard of the blight she knew it was going to be a problem. Blight was devastating to many plants, causing various fungal infections that would deplete the food for prey and thus the prey number for predators. What she'd later been informed was this blight was not a fungal plant disease but something that was now spreading in the animal population. Mammals, so far as far as she knew and it made her shudder. She'd just gotten over a terrible illness and now the threat of another was lingering over her. On top of that how could she forget the Long Night? The ooze she'd suffered from, the crystals some others bore and of courseā¦ the fungal disease that still others had been infected with. She remembered the mushrooms growing out of ears and eyes, snaking down spines. Could this be a cousin? Was another Long Night around the corner?
Gossamer moved back to the assortment of plants at her paws. Though still primarily a fighter she offered to assist the healers where she could. She had yet to fully decide where in the Armada she could best serve. Gossamer selected a few varieties resistant to powdery mildew and set them in a bowl to boil next to her fire.

Oleander slumped against the wall just between the doorway of his room and the clinic. He had no appetite and his already slender frame was looking haggard. He hadn't had a good groom in days.
With a deep breath, he pushed through the door to enter the clinic and noticed his Aunt Gossy looking over some herbs.
"Hey Gossy, I got some samples of the blighted leaves if you wanna check." He said and flicked his head over his shoulder reel her into his quarters. He had a table set up in a corner with a metal pail set over them.
"Try not to breathe when you look at them, we don't want to get sick either." He reminded her, he was sure she knew. She was older than him. He was glad for her here though. Why hadn't she reached out when she had her illness? Maybe he could have helped her. He was still barely out of puppyhood himself though. It was nice to have a more experienced healer back on her feet. It made him miss his mom. Can't think about that now.
"What do you think of them? Got any suggestions on how we might cure the sick?" He was forcing a relaxed tone, a charade of unworry he could put on well.
