gardening (allegedly)

At least the poppies had survived, no telling who'd been tending to them. Winding through the garden plot with a sour expression painted on his face, harvesting the ones that were ripe and ready. Carefully tucking them into his basket as he traipsed on, dragging his paws as he walked. Processing the poppies would take time, and his stash was running desperately low. First step is better than no steps. Spitefully, he rips a weed from his garden plot by the roots, tossing it with as much force as he can muster over his shoulder.
Bastards.
Nothing would lift his black mood at this point, and there was still the cannabis patch to check on. Life went on.

The soon to be yearling was moving around slowly, the heat was getting to her. Making her more on edge, and there was nothing that the girl could do about it. Which only seemed to piss her off even more. Despite the constant heat, Sagittarius was always on the go. Always looking for new adventures. Yellow pools laid upon that of her slightly older sibling as he came into veiw. Prancing up to him. What the hell was wrong though?
She coughed to alert him she was close by. "What are you doing? And can I help? But if he wouldn't tell her, she wouldn't help at all. Why should she? Wanting all the information that Wake had, she wanted. Wanted to know what herbs he was gathering and for what use they offered.
As Sagittarius approaches, Wake stifles a cough. His lungs were still weak, and he wasn't kind to them either. Gaze flickering to his little sister, he'd accept the help. It's likely she's far less annoying than Davey, and better company than Tide-- the only creatures of their litter that he's been able to spend time with. "Gardening. Come here, you can help me pull weeds." His tone isn't unkind, though his voice is ragged from the coughing.
"This plot is all poppies. They look like this, the leaves are silver-green, and they have capsules like this--" he pauses to show some of the tall plants, the ones that he's begun to slice the sides of-- allowing the latex to flow free. "Or flowers like these, at the top." Gesturing to the white and purple flowering stalks, for the plants that have already begin to bloom. Wake is careful to point out the important identifying features of the plants. "Anything that isn't poppy gets pulled up, because they take nutrients away from the plants we're trying to grow."
Is he a good teacher? No. Is he good with kids? Also no. But at least he's trying.

He was tense and moody the way he walked around the moor. Appearing to be pissed off in a way. Or was it the way he just appeared to be today. She didn't second question his motives or his task at hand. Gardening was always something that was just right up her ally, or path. Beaming him a smile, paws carrying her closer to her slightly older sibling.
He began showing little Sagittarius what the poppys looked like and stating that the other plants should get pulled because of the theifs stealing nutrients. A small growl was offered to the weeds that was stealing from the herbs of Wakes.
"Like this?" She yanked at a group of weeds which didn't taste to pleasant upon her tonuge, making sure to not pull at the poppys. And still careful to not uproot any of the flowering stalks that her brother was tending too. To turn her head and spitting out the weeds. "They don't taste good." Stating with a slight furrowed brow and a small frown.
Sagittarius growled at the plants, and he couldn't help but give a wry smile. At least she's got the energy for it. "Exactly like that. If you disturb the poppy roots, you can just squish the dirt back down around it. See?" Wake moved to the girl's side, demonstrating the process. Carefully squishing down the disturbed soil, putting it back into place. Thankfully, the plants are pretty hardy.
"Yeah, that's why they're not for eating." Confident grin growing wider, a little chuckle at his sister. "The dandelions taste okay when they're still yellow, before they're all fluffy like this. They can go into mead, and some medicines." Wake gestures at some of the low ground cover, the puffy dandelion heads having long-since gone to seed. While the roots and stems could be useful still, they were already well stocked. Wake wasn't about to take the time to separate them from the rest of the less useful weeds. Into the burn pile they went.

Listening to her brother speak out, watching him as he placed his paw down onto the ground to keep the poppy from uprooting. Her tail danced behind her, mocking that of Wakes demonstration. "It worked!" She jumped up with excitement. Lessons and she was learning. Becoming smarter than she already was. However her tongue was numb and still had the nasty taste from the dandelions.
Honestly, Sagittarius would rather eat dirt than having to taste them once more. But she kept going. Making sure to only use her teeth to get the dandelions free from the soil. Tilting her skull slightly. "What medicines? And what is mead?" Was it like a paste? She wondered as turning to sniff at the poppys. A sly smirk curling the corners of her lips. "And what about these? What are they good for?"
She was always so curious, as wondering if she could eat it, wondering what it would taste like. Sagittarius continued to pick out the weeds. Turning to look at the poppy, not knowing if the flowers were ripe, she took a flower and trotted away.
"Medicine is stuff we make to help us feel better when we're sick or in pain." The explanation was... probably sufficient. Hopefully. "Mead is for drinking, like tea but stronger." For adults to drink, but then, when had Raiders ever waited to adulthood to get a little silly?
"Ay, where're you going?" The boy's brow creases, gaze snapping over his shoulder as the girl padded away with one of the flowers in her mouth. "Those also aren't for eating, come on now." That, and they needed to stay in the ground for long enough to go to seed at the end of the season. Scowling at Saggitarius, Wake set his basket down and took off after her.

The gardening with Wake was beginning to become so fun, her ears perked up as Wake spoke about drinking. Surely she did try some at the market the raiders have hosted and didn't care for the taste. Her tail waved around behind her as she laughed even with the poppy gently between her teeth. Wondering what it would be like to munch down on it. Would it make her high? What was the side effects? Wondering what they would be like. She watched the molted oranges, and other earthy toned male come racing after her. Taking in a breath as she inhaled the flower. Choking down the poppy flower, eyes widen looking to her brother. A small whine escaping her maw. Did she just mess up? Tail tucked between her back legs as trying to cough up the poppy, words didn't come from her, but yellow eyes looking to Wake with a plead glint in her pools. Cool summery wind blowing against her, causing a mist to wrap around her paws, hunkering down in front of the male.
And not knowing what the flower would do to her made her worry a little more than moments before. Was she going to be tripping balls or would she just fall asleep? Ears twist upon her skull. "I - I didn't mean too big brother."
