With Jael still too weak to travel, sending Wake in her stead seemed like a decent choice. The boy had a shopping list for the market, one that was damn near as long as his leg. Taking Tide along for the trip was... perhaps a bit questionable, especially when he had more useful siblings. Still, the boy was better than nothing, and carrying everything back to the Raiders would be a chore. It would keep him out of Jael's hair while she was recovering, and Wake couldn't complain too much without hurting her feelings.

Arriving in the Col, Wake fixes Tide with a stern warning. "Listen here, Bait boy. No funny business, no reflecting badly on our parents, no... fuckery. Don't make me bail your dumb ass out again. Meet me back here at dusk." The words are grim, coming from an older sibling that's way too tired to be dealing with whatever trouble Tide has already cooked up. Hanging a small pouch of trade goods around the child's neck, enough for whatever snacks or trinkets the boy could actually want, Wake sent him on his way.

Alright, now to sort out the things on the list. Winding through the bustling market, at least it's enough to drown out the constant noise in Wake's head. A lit spliff hanging from his lip and a grim expression on his face, it's all pretty standard for market day.

She padded into the market with her task in her mind. Get the book for the kids, one with a title of mountain somewhere in it. Not that she could read well still. This was going to be harder that it sounded but she was determined. She'd been given some pelts to trade and had them securely placed in the basket they used to cart around supplies. She was limping as was common for her but had yet to make her muscles sore today, seeing as this was one of her first tasks for today.

The market was bustling and loud as she made her way through it, looking for book seller. Though a stall caught her eye and she moved to it and looked at some of the wares. Glassworks and other crafts hung about and laid about. She really shouldn't be looking but an object here had caught her eye. A small figurine, a fox jumping over a log and some flowers on the base of it. It was a happy scene and she was instantly in love with it, though knew better than to disappoint her masters.

A shake of her head and she was backing away as the seller was trying to get her to haggle for it. Her ears pressing. Nothing in her basket was her's and she had no way to pay for it, nor would Master Basilisk be happy she had bought a useless trinket likely. She knew he probably had a companion watching but she wasn't so concerned. So long as she did what she was told, got her chores done, and made it to her lessons today she would be fine, she hoped.

She made her way back out into the busy way but stopped, looking around. The busyness of the place had her kind of lost and she felt out of place.

Of all the livestock they'd managed to capture, the sheep had been the least headache and the most rewarding. The goats were on his shitlist, though he could be grateful they weren't really his problem. Well, they weren't until they were... no more fucking goats, okay? There had to be other options, though pigs weren't the play. Too much digging would cause erosion that they couldn't afford. Emus... there's an option. Were there even emu vendors out here? It's probably too far north.

Wake is, admittedly, distracted. So distracted in fact, that he doesn't see the girl as he winds through the market. Another long drag from his spliff, turning to exhale away from the crowd and-- "Fuck," a smoky cough. He'd walked straight into her, nearly tripping over his own paws in the process. "Shit, sorry." Though his tone is sheepish, the same easy, confident grin he always carried snakes over his features. Replacing the dreamy thoughtlessness, Wake wouldn't forget himself, even with the social faux pas at hand.

Books, books, books, where could she find books? She was looking this way and that trying to figure it out. The crowds had her confused and with her tiny frame, seeing over some of the brutes and ladies here was nigh impossible. Then suddenly someone was tripping over her. A yelp of surprise slipped out of her and her pelts and basket dropped. Shit, shit, fuck, fuck. Her mangled leg quickly going to put her now dirtied pelts back in the basket. Basilisk was gonna kill her if they didn't take the pelts now and if she didn't get the book, and she would be upset if she didn't get some herbs or a herbal book to study on her own in return for the only item in the basket that was hers, not that it was extravagant, but she had found the herb and plucked it this morning. A book with mountains right. She heard him apologize and she glanced at him from the side of her eye as she worked to recover her goods. "No, no, it's my fault.... I wasn't able to see a thing and was just standing here in your way trying to find a book seller.... I'm sorry I disturbed your shopping sir...."

She folded her ears and gave him an apologetic smile and bow of her head as she apologized to him for tripping him up. She should of been paying more attention. She had just been so dazed though. She stood up then and grabbed her basket again in her jaws, before trying to figure out the book stall location once more. There were so many shouting wares it was hard to figure out things. The book was her priority, but it would be nice to get something she could call her own. She made to move so he could step past her meager form, into the more crowded walking path.
