It wasn't in his nature to go looking for a fight, but his siblings had all seemed to progress further and faster in their training. Kat was more comfortable hunkering down in known territory... but he had to push his limits. To do that, he'd need to find out what those limits even were. The poor youngster looked uncomfortable from ear to tail tip as he prowled the edges of the Boneyard, not quite sure what to make of the place. He was hulking in size, but it was clear he wasn't quite sure how to use all of that muscle. It hadn't all evened out yet, he was leggy and awkward in the way only wolves of a certain age were. Jynn stretched her front legs out and pushed her hips back til her back popped. Ahhh, much better. Now she was in reasonable shape to go another round or two. She had attempted to nap but she was too wound up from her previous spars to bother resting for long. Back on her feet she scouted back down the trail to find another good spot to call for a challenger. However, this time she was surprised to hear a familiar call. Katsurō!

He was probably looking for some new opponents and she hesitated to spoil his efforts if he was looking to spar someone outside of Tojo, but that said they had never sparred before and perhaps a familiar face might ease him into the experience. She shifted course and soon caught site of him. As she approached she dipped her head in formal greeting. "Katsurō, it seems you're looking for more practice? I am as well, and if you don't mind fighting me I'd love to be your opponent." She swiftly set her defenses and looked to him to see if he wished to continue.

It wasn't long before a familiar face loped on by. Kat found himself embarrassed to have been caught here by a Taicho - he knew he should feel more confident in his abilities by now, but he simply didn't. Jynn had always been kind and eager to teach and he tried to remind himself of that. There was no judgement here! Still, he felt his ears fall slightly and he glanced down at Jynn's paws instead of meeting her gaze. "Yes! Thank you," he said, ducking his head in a curt bow. When he lifted it, he saw Jynn's defenses were already in place. Well, no time like the present! Katsurō launched himself towards her. He still wasn't used to his teen weight and size and he found himself a little unsteady on his paws as he came at her. The pups had grown well and even at this young age the boy was taller than her, though he didn't seem quite confident in his skills. That wasn't unexpected though, he was still quite young and had plenty of time to grow and improve. Jynn's legs coiled as the boy raced toward her head-on. As he neared she side-stepped to her right, just in time to avoid the brunt of the boy's attack though she felt his shoulder slide along her left shoulder. He was quick for his size. Jynn's head whipped to the side as she attempted to bite the outside of his left arm, just over the deltoid. She hoped to cut skin but not leave a serious wound. Pain was a part of battle but she didn't want to cause any permanent damage to her students.

Jynn was much lighter on her paws than he was, perhaps thanks to her willowy frame. When she side-stepped cleanly, Katsu resisted the urge to curse. It would be disrespectful. His sensei turned neatly and clipped his shoulder with her teeth, cutting him cleanly but not deeply. He grunted at the flash of pain, still unused to the burning that came with bloodletting. The koi wolf drew in a sharp, biting breath and dug in his claws to steady himself before rearing up on his back legs to get a better angle on Jynn and attempt to bite her squarely on the base of the spine, just above her tail. Jynn's fangs succeeded in clipping the boy's shoulder and she heard the sharp intake of breath. It would take time to get used to the pain of battle and even then some blows would elicit a yelp from even the most experienced of warriors. It was all part of the process. To his credit Katsurō retaliated swiftly, his head reaching out and fangs tagging Jynn as she raced by, clipping the skin at the base of her tail. Planting her feet sharply, she decided to try something she'd never done before. After all, why should the young be the only one's to learn. Her weight shifted over her front legs as her hind legs kicked out sharply, aiming to strike the boy's left hind leg, with the hope she could knock it out from beneath him and cause him to stumble. That would give her quick form more time to twist around and make another full on assault.
