bear my revenge

Ochitsuki was dead.
Even if she had been found in time, the most talented of healers wouldn't have been able to save her as the injuries she sustained were too grave; claw slashes through muscle and bites straight down to the bone. Hattori's companions quickly swept her away, kept her safe and well out of the bear's reach should they return. Which Hattori trusted that they would.
Hattori had not always been kind to Ochitsuki in life, but in death he would protect what little dignity she had left. It was the least he could do; bring an end to these beasts and grant her a proper funeral, anything less would leave his honour stained.
And thus he stood, lingering by the edge of the Maze, the scent of her blood still reeking fresh with the chirping of crickets almost deafening in the muggy afternoon air.
They were coming back.
