Spring. It was spring. Selkie has decided that she's not all that sure how she feels about spring. Most of the days were pretty chilly for her tastes, and they'd been terribly soggy so far. At least they were starting to get warmer... sorta. Sorta starting. The rain had been pretty much relentless, leaving everything sodden and terrible and chilly though. Actually, Selkie was pretty sure she'd never be anything other than damp ever again. If she was going to be soggy anyway, why not make the best of it?

The rain had slowed to a drizzle, and the days were at least starting to warm up some. Damp as they were, at least she could play in the puddles. Hopping at first, and then leaping. Splashing and giggling her way through, Selkie was really having quite the time of herself. Frolicking and romping, she's absolutely beaming. Bigger and bigger steps, and then full on hops between them, sending water up in all directions. The little pup doesn't realize just how cold she's getting, but at least in this very moment, she doesn't seem to mind too much!

Though not an official member of Ashen, Quill had been invited in as a guest due to his relation to the empress. The grey and white man stuck close to his parent's den, though he settled a bit apart. The day had been rainy and bleak, turning the red rocks darker in color. The dust from them was pulled to ground level, filling a variety of puddles with murky water. Being as pale as he was, this place just creeped him out. Not that he was some prissy sissy or anything, but he didn't want to look like some dirty cur.

As he lay beneath a rocky overhang that shielded him from the rain, Quill's pale eyes noted movement. Neck curling to the side, the man watched as Selkie hopped from puddle to puddle. The girl was soaked through and filthy, but she seemed to be enjoying herself. After their foray into the Fjord, Quill didn't mean the girl harm. She'd been perfectly sweet to him which was something that he wasn't quite used to.

It was early spring and he knew that the rain was cold. There wasn't much to the girl as she was the skinniest of the lot. Surely she was freezing. As if confirming the fact, the little clouded pup shivered. Hmm... Something in the man felt vaguely responsible for this tiny, vulnerable thing. Quill wasn't too sure what that was about, seeing as how he didn't care for much, but something about Selkie in particular roused a sort of protectiveness in him. Interesting.

Sliding down from his ledge, Quill moved up behind Selkie, scruffed her, plucked her from the puddle, and leaped back onto the ledge. He barely got wet in the process. Once back in his resting place, he released the squirming girl and pulled her in close, nestling her in the circle of his body. Quill's chin rested near his hind paws and he gave a low growl. "Sit still. You're going to get sick if you don't warm up." His tone allowed no room for argument, but it was all warning and no aggression.

"Quill"

Sunshine mixed with a little hurricane-- it's true. Selkie has already established this part of herself early, and she can't help it. Mischief comes easily, and comes often. Mischief could lead to trouble for such a tiny, soft thing. That's okay! Selkie couldn't even begin to imagine a world where any of them let anything bad happen to her. She's safe here, many sets of watchful eyes lurking just out of view. No harm would come to her here, or anywhere else for that matter. No harm would come to her, not when her daddy or brothers had something to say about it.

She's not entirely surprised when Quill picks her up by the scruff. The pup gave a small whimper of protest, but she knew better than to fight it. He's broad and warm, something that leaves the tiny girl to realize just how cold she'd been. Shivering still, just a bit, she curled closer to the man with a little sigh. Already, she begins trying to clean the mud from her paws, ridding herself of the mud before it has a chance to dry. "Are you a healer like momma?" Selkie settles after a moment, satisfied with her clean paws. She leans back into Quill, looking up at him with wide, curious red eyes. Selkie rests her head gently on his shoulder, happy to be somewhere warm.
