Spring Mallow

With her stocks tidied and emptied out, it was time to do some gathering of the herbs that didn’t grow in her and her mother’s gardens. She donned her satchel and made her way to her mother’s hut, calling in, "Máthair, tá mé ag dul go dtí an Inbhear le haghaidh roinnt luibheanna úra. Ba chóir dom a bheith sa bhaile tráthnóna."

She listened until her mother’s voice called back an acknowledgement then took off at a trot, satchel bags thumping her sides.

She crossed through one of the southern passages of the wall and delved into the Estuary, scattering several angry pairs of birds from their nests as she passed by. The birds and their eggs were ignored. She had other targets, namely marshmallow and several other herbs to replenish her stockpiles.

She found the first swiftly, and bent to examine the stand, pleased at the health of the plant. Deftly, Legacy began to dig, careful not to damage the roots too badly before they could be harvested.
