Last she had been here, the bamboo hadn't been nearly so plentiful. It seemed Tori's planting efforts to make the place a bit more like home had taken off, to the point some untended patches were impossible to pass through. At least, if Pont ever needed to repair the shrine, they would have somewhere they could harvest from without it depleting the surrounding area.
Despite being the land of her birth, she had forgotten how bizarre the creatures that lived on this island were. It had been known as Rekaru once upon a time, she supposed the name would persist, with or without Ashen wolves dwelling here.
The black lizards sunned themselves on the rocks as always, occasionally diving under the waves to eat the algae that fueled them. Birds of all different shapes and sizes, bizarre and almost but not quite like those found elsewhere. The strangest of all, and the reason she would gather her children today, were the giant tortoises that roamed across the flat spaces, avoiding the pit in the middle of the island. While tortoise itself would prove a challenging hunt, they weren't particularly fast, and she was sure Sakana would find a use for the shell. Not to mention, though different to their usual fare, tortoise meat was edible, and would provide a change from the fish and birds they seemed to mostly subside on these days. She tipped back her head and called for Tarnish, Nimbus and Navis. It was time for a lesson on hunting.

Tarnish returned to the archipelago after a meager meal of seagull eggs from Obsidian beach. He was getting better at scavenging but the gulls still were viscious opponents and he was pecked a good dozen times for egg he'd consumed. He did manage to rip into the wing of one of the gulls but it managed to scramble away. He knew it was probably going to end up food for a seal or something. Bah!
His ears perked up as he heard his mother calling some of them together for a hunt. He shifted course and headed toward her, eager to see how she was doing. He knew his mother had been sick but maybe she was better now? He bounded across the sand, ebony tail waving lightly before he settled down next to her. "Hey mom! How are you feeling? We hunting something good today?" He could definitely do with a bit more breakfast.
His mother had been acting weird lately, and he blamed the replacement wolfdog. Being sick wasn't enough to make her act all... moody. He didn't know a better word, and his mother had certainly been feeling some big emotions when he'd seen her. She always smelled like stress and anger, even if it was mostly a subtle undercurrent of her usual warmth whenever he saw her. He still wasn't entirely convinced Jael was only there to rest and recover from injury, like his dad had said. There was always a chance she had sinister motives, like usurping him as the fluffiest and splotchiest of the litter. Regardless, the boy still came when called for the time being, so he was ready to see what his mom wanted. Still dripping with seawater from the swim between islands, the young boy trotted along until he spotted the dark forms of his brother and mom. Tongue lolling from his maw, the gangly child pulled up alongside the pair and promptly flopped onto his belly. "Hi ma! Hi Tar!" he crowed gleefully, soggy tail thumping against the warm soil. He crossed his paws over one another, all poised and proper. "Can we bring some of the water lizards home today? I want one." he questioned, squinting through the tree cover to where he knew those funky little reptiles were flitting from the rocks and into the sea throughout the day. Wouldn't they be a nice addition to his greenhouse? "Nimbus" raindrops by sqdpxl

Ken knew the call wasn't for him, but that didn't stop him from sticking his nose in. Seeing his brothers gathered with his mum, he bounded over, wet tail waving over his back. His mother was watching one of the walking rocks that liked to eat grass and the boy immediately ran to the back of it and put his paws on its shell, head canting one way and then the other as he looked for something to bite on. If her intention was to have the kids hunt this, he wasn't sure he understood just how they were going to do it. The thing hadn't even bothered to retreat into it's shell, so unfazed by the young wolves and their mother.

Navis didn't arrive but Kenway did so she supposed they could get started. The brown boy had a habit of diving into everything head first so let him and see how far it got him. She tipped her head towards the creature Kenway was harassing. “The lizards are fast and excellent swimmers, and barely a mouthful, one of these tortoises...” She paused for a moment, “Will feed many wolves, and the shell can be used for other purposes, healers find them quite useful, but the shell can also be broken down and polished to make trinkets.” It would be a contrast to the sea turtle shells that some wolves used, but the same material regardless. “They have good defenses though, so how do you suppose we might go about hunting one such as this?” She opened the floor to her sons, interested to see how they might tackle the puzzle at hand.
