Maki wasn't sure why she thought wandering into the dark was such a good idea- she'd been told to be careful, that even though a lot of the tunnels had been mapped out there would always be some dark corner, forgotten and unknown. It didn't help that it was hard to see, her black eye was struggling big time as she found herself in the pitch black, bumping into things on the left side of her body. She stumbled, the clanking of chains marking her startle as she stumbled back, the sound loud enough to drown everything else out. Had her heart racing as she back tracked around a corner, heading deeper rather than the way she came.

She didn't think she was afraid, it felt more like...loneliness than anything else. A disquiet at being so cut off, even if it had been self-imposed since she'd found out about Cel. And could you blame her? It didn't even feel right to smile any more, to enjoy her old hobbies, like she didn't deserve that. That if she was a good daughter she'd just sit around and mourn, because her loss needed to be felt and acknowledged and it felt so unfair that the world kept going on without her when Maki felt like she couldn't.

She gasped a breath, felt like she couldn't breathe.
