His heart pounded with anticipation, adrenaline coursing through his veins as he closed in on his quarry. A runners high, if you will. He knew that this would be no easy feat, but he was determined to prove he could hunt a deer down much easier now. Even at his young age.

With precision, Redrum positioned himself downwind of the deer, ensuring that his scent would not betray his presence. He waited patiently, his muscles coiled, as he prepared to spring into action at the perfect moment.

The deer he had his eye on grazed peacefully, unaware of the predator lurking.

Spider has been tracking the deer’s scent for a while, prowling through the undergrowth on near-silent paws. it’s been a while since they’ve brought something down, and as the Armada’s new crown prince, it’s probably a good idea to sharpen those skills. but as they finally spot a hint of tawny pelt, a flash of movement catches their eye. head snapping around, they just manage to make out a canine body slipping forward, gaze trained determinedly on the deer. oh, oops - have they gatecrashed this boy’s hunt? ah well, maybe they can help each other out here.

lifting their head incrementally above the grass, they attempt to meet the boy’s gaze without alerting the deer to their presence, inclining their head in the creature’s direction. hopefully, their meaning is clear: let’s fuck this guy up together.

For a brief moment, Redrum's instinctual response was one of suspicion and territoriality, the ingrained nature of his kind – But as he met the other wolf’s gaze, he sensed a mutual understanding pass between them, and he silently agreed with a small nod of his skull.

A flicker of excitement ignited within him as he prepared to launch into action, his golden eyes gleaming with determination. He readied himself, trusting his new hunting partner in the moment as he returned his focus back to the deer.

to Spider’s relief, the striped male doesn’t chase them off, and accepts their presence after a few moments of expected hesitation. turning their attention back to the deer, Spider remains low and begins to stalk a wide circle around the creature, weaving through the grass until, unbeknownst to the deer, they’re practically facing it head-on. as they move, they try to catch the boy’s eye, jerking their head forward to encourage his attack. if everything went to plan, the boy would chase the deer right into their path, trapping the animal between them. it would be tricky to stay clear of its hooves and antlers, but hopefully they’d be able to get out of this with minimal injuries.

Spider tenses as their prey approaches, only revealing themselves at the last moment to avoid spooking the creature into a last minute course diversion. when it’s clear there’s no chance of escape, Spider pops up from the undergrowth and has just enough time to register the spark of terror in its eyes before they’re lunging for its throat, propelling themselves forward so that they can attach themselves to its velvety neck. blood bathes their tongue as they tear into it, trusting their hunting partner has caught up and is launching a similar siege on the creature’s hide.

With a savage lunge, Redrum assists in the takedown by jumping over the deer, teeth catching somewhere along its back and using his weight to help bring it down to the ground. He is ferocious in his attack, ready to make full use of his size to help his small hunting partner to the fullest.
