just a wolf in wolf's clothing,

it's a cloudy evening when he finds a secluded island seemingly empty of others. it discourages him as he was not a solitary creature but what better way than to spend it productively? getting busy would distract him from his personal qualms & a stimulating activity thus set the tones for today's endgame. a idea to craft and create something, something of value to the peculiar vadim. and off the brute went, marching with superficial purpose as his large body moved deeper into the island.
his trot is brisk and heavy, his eyes scanning the areas before him for a single specimen. vadim was not native here; coming far from it with secretive origins of his own. a seasoned forager with a sharp eye: he knew what to look for and where to find it. a skill that accompanied him for nearly all his two years of life, amongst others.
moments pass when he halts abruptly, his tail swaying near his ankles from the momentum as he stands before the foot of the volcano. beady indigo eyes look at the foundation of the volcano, studying it & looking for specific characteristics until he finds it. "Ah..," he relieves with a slight wag of his tail. his prize was the glinting hardened glass, a by product of rapidly cooled magma that must've happened ages before his discovery.
his gaze admires what he found before lifting his upper body up & onto the volcano's base. his inky talons coming to ruin the alp without hesitance when he begins in a focused trance; shoulder blades switching side to side as he vigorously carved his way to uncover more the obsidian. the crumbling earth only exciting him further as he released a clean piece of obsidian from the hold. it's then he ceases and returns to a stable stand, his snout learning of the black glassy specimens that laid broken at his paws. glossy shards scattered on the dry terrain as he looked it over some more before selecting a substantial piece to carve and perfect. it wouldn't be without strain as these had terribly sharp edges and fragile tips.
taking the obsidian within his mouth ever so gently, vadim slowly walked to find a suitable bed of grass to craft on.

When Morwenna finally found a way to get beyond the outer ring of the misty island from the coast she stood on the ridge and looked with awe down below at a valley of trees, then back up the side of the dormant volcano to the whispers of snow at the top.

Carefully, she tiptoed down the ridge and alighted on the forest floor littered with leaves, pine needles, moss, and ferns. She noted the echinaceas and fireweed blooming in abundance in the typical sunny patches and little barberry or uva ursi berries fruiting in the undergrowth. She'd keep this spot in mind as she spotted the small dark berries of the barberry plant, and the tall elderberries dripping above her. What a beautiful find!

Suddenly she yipped in mild pain as she fumbled over a couple of dark stones, and saw a bloom of her blood on the fur between her toes as she observed the pain. One of her pads was sliced so cleanly she had barely felt it. The pain only came after she stepped on it again to catch herself!

She held her forepaw up and scanned the ground for the culprit, but she only saw the dark shiny stones. She whined in a soft high note to herself and glanced around for some yarrow, the feathery leaves and cluster of white blooms were thankfully nearby.

As she looked for the yarrow she paused to see a large handsome male through the trees. He was returning from the mountainside with one of those dark shiny stones himself! The one she tripped over must have tumbled from the slopes long ago. She didn't know his demeanor and couldn't get a read of him from here so she abstained from reaching out to him for the moment and instead limped herself over to the stand of yarrow and treated her paw to stop the bleeding. It was going to be a little sore for a while and keep her from running very far.

After her paw was sufficiently stuffed with a yarrow paste she limped toward him curiously,
"Hello! What are you doing with it?" She asked as she got nearer, forgetting to introduce herself.

just a wolf in wolf's clothing,

he took no effort to clean up his mess, let alone consider any others that might've found themselves victim to the jagged edges of exposed obsidian. he cared not,- while on his own mission to make a weapon. he slowly came to a pause when he found a soft bed of grass to craft on, his larger body coming to a relaxed sit while he placed the glass down carefully to assess it further before carving took place. but it's then someone disrupts him; chiming in with an irrelevant question to his right. he turns his head to view who spoke, his eyes hardening with an unfriendly glare to them. they seize her, and confront her, as his indigo eyes rolled over her face and form. a small wolf, but it resemble that of a common dog rather. a mutt perhaps? he grew slowly intrigued, but not in a good way.
he hums to himself, "Hmm.." as if thinking aloud to his filthier ponders. his eyes relaxed some but still held a questionable essence inside them, something masked. "I am forging a weapon." he answered plainly, his fangs clicking as he closed his mouth again. he fetches his nose for a moment, pointing to his right in effort to guide her away. "find your own obsidian." he sneered slightly, his cavernous teeth flashing for only a second in brief warning that he didn't desire to share.
he turns back, not concerned with her any further when he places both massive frontal paws upon the thick obsidian slice, keeping it still. there is a rough stone near by & he quickly extends his neck to grab it with his teeth before placing it down near his glass. before he starts, Vadim shoots a look at the woman, hoping she's gone by now yet notices the scent of blood revolving around her. indigo eyes look down at her injured paw, comprehending her current state. "Who cut you?" his ears swiveled with the effort to remain alert, had there been danger lurking about that wasn't himself.

The way his blue eyes roved over her slender body before he answered her made her chest catch. She didn't know if she wanted to be intrigued or repulsed as he hummed to himself. She tucked her chin closer to her breast and looked away, feeling shy and suddenly unsure.

He finally remarked that he was forging a weapon and she turned back to him, pulling her ears up and tilting her head. Oh? One can make weapons with such stones? She'd certainly appreciate a knife of her own, even if it was just to cut down the sturdier herbs for her use.

She wanted to bother him no more, he made it rather plain that he wished to be left alone when he told her to go find her own obsidian. Ah, so that's what it was called. She had tripped over those skinny stones, it was probably one of those that she had cut her foot on earlier.

She nodded to him and started to nose her way through the grass and stones, trying to decide if she too would craft a weapon. No... A curved knife, dull on the outer edge, sharp on the inside. Yes. It'll make it so much easier to - He interrupted her thoughts this time, asking who cut her...

She took in a breath as she lifted her head, she didn't look at him directly. Instead, she let her gaze wander over the trees back in the direction she had first come. Would that be a good escape route? Why did she suddenly feel the need to escape? He hadn't done anything yet. She shook her silky lengthy fur and finally responded, this time she looked in the opposite direction, still not at him.

"No one. I think I sliced a foot on one of those pieces. I'll be fine though. I'm a healer." Meaning she was more useful alive in case he had the idea to test out his hunting skills on a maimed girl. Hmmm.... The thought didn't quite displease her if it went down a less dangerous route.

She picked a rather large, thick piece of the black glass and rolled it down the slope from him, keeping her injured delicate paw up to her chest. Every time she tried to place it on the ground any pressure on her foot would make her wince.

She also quickly found a nice piece of basalt and brought it to her obsidian piece. She had an idea to make herself a boline.

OOC: mature for language.

just a wolf in wolf's clothing,

her lack of eye contact was frustrating for him and unnatural. but he ignores it, his tail whipping with the effort to fan it off. the female was one that appeared too wrapped into her own delicate world- outlandish when shies from him. he snorts, "What's wrong with you? Something in your eye?" his voice was baritone with a slight accent. Vadim then briefly returned to his crafting, now holding the stone with his mouth as he lightly tapped the obsidian into a smaller piece by its thinner ridges.
when she mentions she hurt herself based on his actions, any decent wolf would apologize. but Vadim didn't care for her enough to acknowledge his wrongs, let alone admit to them. taking a moment to place the rock down, he shook his head as he dusted his fur. flicking off dirt as his eyes turned back to the woman, licking his maw once to clean his lips. "A healer?" she was useful then. perhaps her acquaintance was worth something now. "Sorry about that. Ya' know.. leaving the shards there." his apology meant nothing, but she didn't know that. he's careful not to change his careless demeanor though- making his change of heart invisible to her perception.
"Don't be dumb. You can't craft with one paw." he sneered, his eyes dispassionate as he watched her try at it. "plus your piece is way too thick. You'll cut sharper edges and lack accuracy in the shape." he was obviously trying to be nice.. in his own way. "тупица(Dumbass)."

She ignored his remark about her violet eyes lacking in focus on him. Instead, she simply smirked to herself while she went about trying to figure out how to carve while her paw was lame. He was holding it in his teeth, she had a different structure in mind.

She gave him an affirmative hum about her healer title and placed the basalt upon her thick obsidian. She jumped the basalt into the glass and created a chip with her strong paw. The basalt slid but if she balanced on her hinds she could use her strong paw to readjust and slam it again. She started to create a thick moon shape from the obsidian.

She didn't think she tripped on shards left by him but she wasn't going to argue with him about it. But If he decided to apologize, good for him.

She kept banging out her piece, believing it was coming out nicely, if a little slowly. Her strong leg was starting to feel a little weary though. The crude moon shape was coming out, and a little slot for a good handle was taking shape. She wanted the outer edge to be dull. She remembered her adopted family had one of these. However, it was made of metal.

He berated her, the sneer in his accent made more sense when he called her a dumbass in a tongue she remembered from her early youth. It was her first language, and the words took her back to a time before her first disaster. It made her pause and look over her shoulder at him with a coy twinkle in her eye. She may be a bit rusty but may as well surprise him.

"Бар сам лепа. /at least I'm pretty."
