Freedom never tasted so good. Once the pack had wandered south into Auster for the bonfire, Lumine had been able to slip away the day after. Taking advantage of the lack of supervision, she wasn't going to waste her time given to explore new territories. Her first direction, she decided, would be southeast from the Starlit Plains. Hell, she wasn't even sure she would go back! Just wandering through aspen and cedar groves with its multitude of rapids and sloping falls was invigorating. The weather here was pleasant! Nothing like the frigid cold of the north on that damn mountain. Lumine would scorn that mountain for the rest of her life. Thinking about it now even made her fur bristle with frustration and a broken heart.

Forcing herself to shove away the turmoil with a deep inhale, her curiosity is piqued when a sharp tinge of sea salt meets her nostrils. Eyes alight with interest as she picks up her step. Paws cover ground quickly, the terrain soon changing from soft, marshy grass and dirt to loose soil and rough-edged rocks. The land inclines slightly, creating a natural dune barrier that she can easily traverse. Grass turns from thick and green to sparse and tan, nearly as tall as her thighs. At the top of the dune, she can see the whole cove as it encircles the little rocky tide pools below.

This was a place she had never seen before and she was amazed. She wastes no time to slide down the other side of the dunes and toward the tide pools. Her nose is quickly thrust into a pool to investigate the little hermit crabs and anemones that dance back and forth in the shallows. This place was so cool! Popping her head back up, eyes moving to her next target tide pool, she is quickly frozen by the sight of a wolf dragging a limp figure across the coral and rocks. Normally, Lumine would mind her own business, but the sight of this made her furious. How dare someone take advantage of that poor victim!

Letting out a sharp bark, Lumine charges forward. The culprit freezes at the sound of her calling, head lifting up, dark eyes turning to see who had caught them. She watches as the fur bristles, a defensive posture shifting across the other's figure and a deepening growl echoes across the beach. Unfortunately for them, it doesn't deter her from seeking justice. No one would be laying a paw on that wolf if she had anything to say about it! What did have to say though was how horrible it was to run across this beach. Every step was met with an uncomfortable poke and the rocks threatening to shift and knock her balance off.

Having to correct her posture and balance, it takes her a moment to catch up. The figure is continuing to drag the victim, but in a more hurried fashion now. Trying to reach a small and dark nook to no doubt store the knocked out figure for sake keeping. Another bark leaves her, reverberating with a threatening growl as she closes the distance. Ignoring how badly her paw pads hurt, Lumine doesn't stop. Lowering her head, flattening her ears, and bracing herself, she launches at the wolf with ferocity.

The force of her attack causes the wolf to drop its grip on the other, its body making a sickening thump on the rock and sand. Her demeanor is all fight now, she'll tend to the injured wolf after the mongrel was dead. Grabbing onto the wolf's scruff and digging her teeth into its skin, she shakes her head violently. Her front paws grab around their shoulders as they respond, their own paws lifting up to meet her, swatting at her to try and knock her off. Teeth clack next to her face, attempting to grab at her cheek and neck, their body also flailing back and forth. Their dance continues as they stumble across the rocks and into the shallows.

Soon they are ankle deep and sinking further. The sand is loose here in the shallows with the sharp edges of the pool providing ample injuries to their joints and bones. Lumine cries out though muffled through her grip on his skin. Fighting in the water was not ideal, not even something she'd ever consider, but maybe she could have the upper hand. It almost was like fighting in the snow. Her movements are lagging, paws sticking into the sand as the cold water reawakens her anger with every splash. Blood seeps from her mouth, trailing down her chest and into the water. Their teeth find her leg, her shoulder, still flailing, stumbling more and more. They're desperate, ready to take another soul, but she refuses.

Pushing him further into the water, she stumbles. Still on her hind paws, they both are at this point, she begins to lose her balance. The force of the tide, the loose rocks hiding in the soil, every piece of the landscape they fight on is against them. As they begin to tumble into the water, Lumine twists her body, jaws releasing their hold so she can stay on top of them. Their body crashes into the water, water spraying her face, but giving her the upper paw. She lands on top, forcing them under, her full weight on top of them. Unrelenting as they thrash for what feels like an eternity, Lumine uses them as a little island. Their body is more solid than the sand and rock.

Finally, she is triumphant. Her chin lifts to the sky, a harrowing and exhausted howl drifts from her lips. Removing herself from the body, she shoves it further into the water so that it would wash out to sea and never be seen again. Without another look back, she limps toward the shore and where the other is still unconscious. A sigh leaves her as she plops down beside them, curling up with the injured figure to ensure they'll make it through to see another day.
