The trips back and forth between the prominence and auster were, in a way, wearing the woman out. She wasn't used to feeling body weary, but since she knew now that she was in fact pregnant, she wasn't exactly surprised either. Because of this, she allowed herself to stop and take periodic breaks as long as she didn't take too long before getting started on the journey again. She didn't plan on taking long this time either, but as her stomach growled with the familiar pangs of hunger, she decided it was better to stop for a meal now than later. She did have a bunch of hungry bellies inside of her, anyway.
She wasn't after a large meal to save the effort and managed to catch herself a rabbit for now and a rabbit for later so she wouldn't have to hunt for another meal. As her stomach growled, she wasted no time devouring the small mammal, but the sound of crunching grass caught her attention and her head snapped towards it, however most of her vision was blocked by a low hill. "Who's there?" she barked, her voice carrying a warning as she scented the air. It was no one she recognized, and certainly not one of her own.

He most definitely enjoyed the gulley. It still held bits of water, it still held flora for him to investigate. Yes, he much liked this massive continent so far…despite the odd summers. Perhaps it was spring and fall that plants needed collection in. He would find out as the seasons changed. In the mean time, he would take what he could without destroying the plants altogether. It wasn’t just poisons that interested him, no, he had a vested interest in the antidotes and herbs that minimized the effects of the poisons. Especially since some were difficult to harvest without getting a small amount on oneself. He had found a delicious patch of peppermint, plucking the leaves and stuffing them into his pouch while savoring the taste. It was some time, in the red-tinted day that he finally smelled another wolf. His stride paused, faltering as if deciding if he should turn back the other way or continue his path. In the air he could smell blood, rabbit, and he could not help but lick his lips. He hadn’t eaten today. That in itself was enough to have him move a few steps forward, the crunch of grass beneath his paws ultimately giving him away as a sharp warning bark came only seconds later. He sighed quietly, before answering, "just a passerby." He moved forward, cresting the small hill to find a she-wolf that towered over him by several inches. Well…that was not what he expected. She was lithe in frame and build, telling him that she would far outrun him. Yet, there was a swell to her belly that told him she had heavier burden than usual. He could help with that. No. We aren’t doing that…yet. He corrected. Not until he knew whether this she wolf was a friend, or foe. By that time the welps would likely be born. Pale gaze flicked to the rabbit and then back to the bronze framing around her pale eyes. "I’m Lathan Fox, miss…?” He tilted his head slightly as he nodded politely to her. He wasn’t foolish enough to settle on his haunches quite yet, but he did drop his rabbit pouch to the ground, head remaining low protecting his throat as well as making it easy to grab the pouch and run if need be. Not that he had much confidence he would get very far. |
