The more Usagi traversed the labyrinth of chartruse bamboo, he realized that what was as familiar to him as the back of his paw was not likely the case for any newcomers and children. He long abandoned the need to glance upwards at the notches he made to guide himself along the maze’s confusing interior, ensuring he wouldn’t double back in the same direction by accident. However, times changed, and even with time, one had to expect that new members would surely make their way at some point — maybe not today, or tomorrow — but it wasn’t such a terrible idea to remark those notches to make them a little clearer.

The hohei glanced upwards at the worn out clefts, realizing the bamboo was able to heal itself to the point where it almost like another band in the bamboo stalk. It wouldn’t do. He narrowed his eyes as he unsheathed his double-bladed sword, coiling his powerful hind legs to almost stand upright, just enough to briefly swipe his blade across the bamboo flesh to create a fresh notch. It was just within eyesight for any creature, regardless of height, to see clearly.
